The attraction to Winchester Mystery House lies in its architecture and lack of any master building plan, as much as for its ghost stories. The widow of William Wirt Winchester, who built the house, began construction only after her husband died and left her a huge fortune. A medium told her this fortune should be used to build a house for the ghosts of the people who were killed by her husband's famous rifles. The architectural curiosities were added continuously from 1884 to 1922. Take a guided tour to learn all the quirky stories of the haunted rooms. Make a reservation online. I thoroughly enjoy the Winchester Mystery House. I have been there too many times, enjoyed the weird, strange and spectacular too much and this time I went for Unhinged, their Halloween event. It was very enjoyable, creep factor high, scares were pretty good, too. Plus, Christine McConnell made a house replica out of gingerbread. It is amazing and free to see in the gift shop. Check it out.

We recently visited for our anniversary as my wife is a very big fan of anything spooky. I'm a little less superstitious myself however it was very interesting to visit even if it's just to check out the architectural wonder of the house and, you set the spooky theories aside. I'd highly recommend getting the additional explore more tour as it really brings the whole experience together. Both of our guides, Roxy and Stephen if I remember correctly were very professional, informed and, were very engaged with my wife and I as well well as the other guests. It was overall a great experience and worth the trip to see. Truly a top notch place the only critique I would have is that some rooms were under renovation or otherwise inaccessible and could really add to the tours value.
