I moved out of the redwood forest after 39 years, and a return to this nice park maskes me smile and appreciate the uniqueness of the central coast area. I was happy to see the parking lot full on... more »

Incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Extremely accessible place to see the big redwoods. Loop trail walk path (pick up the self-guide brochure at the visitor center) is flat and well maintained. Much more of a stroll than a hike. Great place to bring kids to inspire and awe. Visitor center and natural history museum are worth a trip by themselves.

Henry Cowell park is a wonderful place, especially the Fall Creek unit across Highway 9. Redwoods, streams, oak trees, and the remains of historical lime kilns and logging artifacts dot the forest. There are miles of trails, from easy to strenuous, and all beautiful. It is a serene place even when it's full of other hikers. Fall Creek especially is a great place to take kids, and there is a fairly easy trail that follows a beautiful year-round creek. One of my favorite places to go in the area!
