Discover one of the world’s finest collections of art at Scottish National Gallery, situated on the Mound, an artificial hill in the middle of the city. Designed by architect William Henry Playfair in the Neoclassical style, the gallery opened in 1859. Today, it houses Scottish and international art from the beginning of the Renaissance to the start of the 20th century. At the heart of the collection is a group of paintings transferred from the Royal Scottish Academy, including masterpieces by Jacopo Bassano, Anthony van Dyck, and Giambattista Tiepolo. The collection also includes notable works by Cézanne, Botticelli, Degas, El Greco, Monet, Goya, Gauguin, Raphael, Rembrandt, Velazquez, and Vermeer, to name just a few. Always love visiting here when we go to Edinburgh. It's a fab space to really take in the paintings with plenty of central seating to stop and have a proper look. Got some 'big name' artists and some lesser known artists too. Lots of variety and a good breadth of art periods. The giftshop is always worth a visit. Looking forward to visiting once all the remodeling is done!

Great exhibits! Full of great paintings and the occasional sculpture. Sit down and enjoy the strange silence as others enjoy the paintings. It was fantastic you don't have to worry about knowing your artistry, amazing paintings and old chests from more than 200 years ago are in abundance and pieces even the average eye can appreciate.
