A royal park in the center of Edinburgh, Holyrood Park is the best place to get an overview of the Scottish city. Just 1.6 km (1 mi) from Edinburgh Castle, the park features hills, lochs, glens, and basalt cliffs that were once part of the royal deer-hunting grounds. Walking trails etch the park: Follow one up to the highest point in Edinburgh, Arthur's Seat. The seat rises 251 m (823 ft) over the city and provides a breath-taking view. Nestled between the hills is St. Margaret's Loch, where ducks, geese, and swans float. Nearby stand the ruins of an Augustinian abbey that was in use until the 16th century. You'll also find a cairn, a man-made stone pile, that commemorates the murder of a long-suffering wife and a chapel with mysterious origins. Holyrood Park is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , custom trip planner Edition.

Some lovely relaxing walks here! So lovely and beautiful. Some really great views of Edinburgh from high up. more »
This was my second time to the park in the late fall and I will say it had been quite a hard freeze that day which meant the ground was terrible for climbing. However, the views were as always... more »
Holy smokes this was a great hike. It will always be one of my most memorable experiences due to having to take a dump on this gorgeous, Scottish mountainside! My buddy and I were almost to the top of King Arthur's Seat when I had to take my own seat next to a big bush. It was the most picturesque squat that I've taken in my entire life.
Awesome public park right in the middle of Edinburgh. Follow the signs for the park on to Queens Drive & follow it through & around the park. There are various small car parks all the way round and ample parking. Try to walk to the top of the central hill for spectacular views for miles around. It is steep going, and the paths can be slippy, but its worth it for the views across the city & surrounding landscape.
