Popular historic sites such as Old Bazaar, Skopje and Memorial House of Mother Teresa are in your itinerary. Escape the urban bustle at Lake Matka and Mountain of Vodno. Change things up with these side-trips from Skopje: Tikves Winery (in Kavadarci) and Mavrovo Lake (in Mavrovo). Located on Lake Ohrid, the town of Ohrid earned the nickname Jerusalem of the Balkans because it was once home to 365 churches.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Monastery Saint Naum and Heraclea Lyncestis. Do some cultural sightseeing at Lake Ohrid and Saint Climent of Ohrid. Take a break from Ohrid with a short trip to Clock Tower in Bitola, about 1h 10 min away. Spend the 16th (Fri) exploring nature at National Park Galicica. Next up on the itinerary: glide through the air with a parasailing or paragliding tour, pause for some serene contemplation at St. Jovan Kaneo, shop like a local with Icon Gallery-Ohrid, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Saint Sophia.

Getting from Skopje to Ohrid by car takes about 3 hours. Other options: take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. In September, daily temperatures in Ohrid can reach 28°C, while at night they dip to 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
