Padang

Porch of Medina

The largest city on the western coast of Sumatra, Padang enjoys a reputation as one of Indonesia's cleanest and greenest cities despite its hub of residential and commercial activity.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Kripik Balado Shirley and Tiram Beach. Get outdoors at Air Manis Beach and Pantai Padang Taplau. Explore Padang's surroundings by going to Danau Diatas (in Painan) and Lake Singkarak (in Solok). The adventure continues: admire the sheer force of Sarasah Gadut Waterfall, make a trip to Ulakan Mosque, examine the collection at Museum Adityawarman, and enjoy the sand and surf at Bungus Beach.

If you are flying in from Malaysia, the closest major aiport is Minangkabau International Airport. In January, plan for daily highs up to 36°C, and evening lows to 26°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Tue) so you can travel back home.
