Athens of the North

World Heritage-listed Edinburgh combines ancient and modern in a uniquely Scottish atmosphere.
Visit Edinburgh Castle and Bamburgh Castle for their historical value. Do some cultural sightseeing at Rosslyn Chapel and National Museum of Scotland. Go for a jaunt from Edinburgh to Rothbury to see Cragside House and Gardens about 1h 50 min away. There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Royal Yacht Britannia, wander the streets of Edinburgh Old Town, stroll around Holyrood Park, and take in the dramatic natural features at Arthur's Seat.

To see where to stay, ratings, and tourist information, you can read our Edinburgh visit planner.

If you are flying in from Ireland, the closest major aiports are Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow International Airport and Glasgow Prestwick Airport. In November, daily temperatures in Edinburgh can reach 10°C, while at night they dip to 1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 25th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
