Composed of three islets of volcanic origin, Animaris Ilha Deserta sit just off the coast of Morocco, roughly between the Madeira and Canary islands. Classified as a nature preserve since the 1990s, these islands shelter both rare and native species. The archipelago's major attraction remains its population of about two dozen monk seals, widely regarded as the rarest seals in the world. Due to the islands' barren soil and arid climate, the only other wildlife surviving here consists of about 15 species of birds and a scarce population of feral goats, rabbits, and rodents. The easiest access to the islands is by guided boat tour, which you can join in the port city of Faro. Nice day trip if you're in the area but wouldn't travel for hours for it , took ferry from tavira for 2.20€ return , mosquitos were terrible got bitten bad as did many others, tavira is a cute little.... more »

Our second trip by ferry. Lovely walk round the island ending up on the beach. Didn’t have a meal this time, just a beer, but were welcomed. more »

Took a ferry here. Best day spent in Portugal! Beautiful sand and ocean. I’ve never seen so many seashells!

Incredible deserted island. We went in January and the weather was stunning. There is only one building on the island and that is a restaurant(quite pricy). But for the experience of ferry ride and quiet island I am definitely giving 5 ⭐️ Must go if you are visiting Faro and looking for special experience.
