San Sebastian Church, Manila

Architectural Building · Hidden Gem · Religious Site
Visit San Sebastian Church to see murals of Carmelite saints, and admire the beautifully illuminated, Gothic-style interior. During the Chinese uprising, the original wooden structure was burned to the ground, and later on replaced by a brick church. The brick construction the suffered damage from three earthquakes, which subsequently led the rebuilding of the church in steel. The architect Genaro Palacios fused Earthquake Baroque and Neo-Gothic architectural styles to create the now earthquake-resistant church, as it stands in its current form. Circle the church to admire its mint facade and twin spires, then enter to see the main altar and the vaults in the ceiling. • Fr. Enrique Y. Santos celebrated his 25th Sacerdotal Anniversary in this Church in 2012. ❤️
  • Great architecture! This is the only church made entirely of steel in the whole Asia. I hope this will be preserved and not end up being destroyed due to economic growth.
