Trip Planner: Africa / Namibia / Otjozondjupa Region / Waterberg Plateau Park / Okonjima Game Reserve
At Okonjima Game Reserve, embark on a jeep safari or track cheetahs and leopards on foot in their natural habitats. The reserve and rehabilitation center started out as a small guest farm in 1986. By 2010, it encompassed 22,000 hectares (54,360 acres) stocked with game, including wild dogs, hyenas, antelope, porcupines, honey badgers, and more than 250 bird species. Learn how these rehabilitated animals get a second chance to be released back into the wilderness. The reserve provides a wide range of accommodations from campgrounds to private lodges with your own safari vehicles and cooks. Okonjima Game Reserve Reviews
We visited a lot of very good campsites in Namibia, but this was the best of the lot. It has wonderful facilities including a large, covered, concrete-based kitchen area with a free supply of wood for... more »

The aim is to put them back into the wild, unfortunately it is not always possible. The tour we did lasted about 2 hours, before we were at the foundation headquarters where they explained how they operate and gave information about the animals we would see. Afterwards we had the chance to see some cheetahs and a leopard, it actually looks like a visit to a safari zoo, but the purpose of the foundation is well deserved and these tours are a way to fund yourself. We stayed overnight at Omboroko Campsite in Camp Chilala. The place is beautiful, the pitch equipped and wide, the wild part concerns the toilets that consist of 2 toilets surrounded by a fence with no closed roof in front of a tent and 2 showers structured in the same way. It was an exciting experience for us, and I think it's right to support them in their work.
