#1 of 18 in Things to do in Kunene Region
Observe the mist-shrouded environment with fig trees, baobabs, and makalani palms at Epupa Falls. From the top of this striking set of falls--of which the longest drops 37 m (121 ft)--take in sweeping views of the Kunene valley and river. Join a guided tour of the waterfalls and nearby Himba villages, or go bird-watching and wildlife sighting. Alternatively, opt for some white-water rafting several miles upriver. Bring some food for a picnic in one of the designated areas. • After days and days of orange and desert yacsee as far as the eye can see, the view of Epupa Falls fills the heart with wonder and natural green charm. The site of the falls is just wonderful. Despite the dry season, in August the river and waterfalls were filled with water. The waterfall can be visited for free through access just before the entrances of the various campsites. The climate on site is definitely warmer and humid than the rest of the country (37 degrees in August), so it may be recommended to have a mosquito repellent under your hand, especially in the wet seasons. It is advisable to calculate very carefully the stage and the kilometers needed, since the dirt road from opuwo is among the most difficult to travel and requires no less than 2/2h30 of very careful driving. MAGIC LUOGO!!!

  • We arrived at Epupa Falls in the middle of a strong rainy season. The flow in the river was very strong and all the waterfalls flowed on its own. From one side to the other side of the river. A very impressive sight. You can see the pictures.
  • It's beautiful
