Wernigerode Castle, Wernigerode

Must see · Castle · Tourist Spot
One of the most popular castle destinations in Saxony-Anhalt, Wernigerode Castle was built into a slope in 1213. In the 18th century, Count Christian Ernest had the castle renovated in the Baroque style that you see today. More renovations in the 19th century added the romantic touch that makes the castle seem as if it arose from the pages of a fairytale. The interior courtyard comes to life during the Christmas season with activities and events happening every hour. These include storytelling, minstrels, reenactments, and a Christmas market. The castle museum is open throughout the year and often hosts conferences, weddings, and events because of its beautiful interior architecture. • Great castle , excellent views and alot of exhibits. Corona aware with lots of gel and markings. Very reasonably priced too.  more »
  • It is a lovely castle, not very big inside, but it is nice to visit. From outside, you can have a beautiful view to see the Harz area. A small hike to go up, do not try to take your bike.  more »

  • We take a walk to this castle from city center. The walk is interesting since there are many parts of the city that we can enjoy along the way. The scenery from the castle yard is superb. Would really recommend that. I think the castle is not stroller friendly, and there still renovation going on when we visit. There is tram from the center to the castle if you dont want to walk.
  • Beautiful, with an amazing view of the town. Inside you'll find rooms preserved with their furniture and special exhibitions. Events also take place here, so check out the news!
