Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha), Hong Kong

4.5
Both a pilgrimage site and a popular tourist attraction, Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha) ranks among the city's top must-sees. The massive 34 m (111 ft) bronze statue, formally known as Tian Tan Buddha, was erected in 1993, bringing the Po Lin Monastery to the world's attention. The Buddha sits at the top of 268 steps, facing north. Climb to the top for a closer look at the statue, and to savor the panoramic vista of mountains and sea below. Remember that this is an important Buddhist site, so be respectful of those here to see Buddha as more than a tourist attraction. After your visit, explore the Po Lin Monastery just opposite. • Go back to the cable car and bus 23. That's how we have visited Tain Tan Buddah. The bus can be with the Octopus card. The cable car must be paid separately. You will arrive in the village of Ngong Ping. Where you arrive via a street with souvenir shops at Buddah and the Po Lin monastery. If it is not too crowded then it is fine to take pictures from all sides of the 34 meter high Buddah. Is a really nice trip.

  • The cable car ride and the climb of the steps are worth it! This great Buddha deserves the energy to reach it! It overlooks the island of Lantau and although far from the beaten track of Hong Kong, the excursion is worth it! Very easy to get to with public transport

  • Nice place, recommended for first time visitor to Hongkong. In this place we can see the famous Giant Buddha Statue at the top mountain. To go up there we can use bus, or iconic cable car. Enjoy the fresh and clean air, nice view from the cable car. Also puck the crystal cable car, it use hard glass at the bottom 😁
  • Beautiful place that is not be missed if in Hong Kong. Plan a day, as it takes about and hour and a half to get here. The views are stunning, the 20 minute gondola ride is fun, especially if you get a cabin with a transparent floor. We loved it all, from climbing the steps to reach Buddha, to the charming town its located in, to the walking cows and bulls freely roaming the streets. Unforgettable.
